Camp Super Campers Always |
A Fun, Supportive, and Empowering Environment for Children and Teens with Sickle Cell Anemia
Camp Super Campers Always offers children and teens with Sickle Cell Anemai (ages 7-16) four days and three nights of summer fun, education, and social connections.
Super Campers Always was developed by Brainy Camps in conjunction with by the Hematology and Oncology Department of Children’s National Medical Center. In addition to fun, the goal of Super Campers Always is to reduce the social isolation that is often associated with this condition, and increase every camper's knowledge and understanding of sickle cell anemia. The camp provide opportunities for the children and teens to work with professional staff and become better self-advocates and self-managers of their condition. Parents can feel comfortable that their children are under the care of trained and experienced doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals who are experts in the field.
Condition specific camps have proven to be an effective way for children to learn more about their condition and to develop adaptive behaviors. At Brainy Camps, children learn from peers and adult volunteers who live effectively with the same health conditions and are offered hope for the future.
Campers participate in many activities including hiking, arts and crafts, canoeing, team sports, a low and high ropes confidence course, Camp Olympics, swimming, yoga and drama. Support groups and educational programs promote knowledge, skill development and social connections
At Camp Super Campers Always, children and teens gain a better understanding of their condition, strengths and self-worth.
All Brainy Camps are held at Massanetta Springs in Harrisonburg, VA.
