New Friends Family Camp offers families and their children with NF three days and two nights of summer fun and social connections.
All of the camps developed by Brainy Camps serve to reduce the stigma and isolation that is often associated with neurological disorders and chronic health conditions. Our condition specific camps have proven to be an effective way for children to learn more about their condition and to develop adaptive behaviors. The children learn from peers and adult volunteers who live effectively with the same health conditions and are offered hope for the future.
Medical staff, including physicians, nurses, social workers, physical therapist and psychologists, are on-site 24 hours a day. Counselors are trained in dealing with the issues associated with NF. Many counselors and volunteers live with the condition themselves and share their experiences with the campers.
Campers participate and choose from a myriad of activities (see “Activities”). Support groups and educational programs promote knowledge, skill development and social connections.
At New Friends Family Camp, parents and children gain a better understanding of NF as well as an appreciation of their individual strengths and self-worth.
The cost of New Friends Family Camp is $150/person. Need based scholarships are available and payment plans can be arranged. Please contact Brainy Camps for more information.
several Neurofibromatosis Network organizations around the country including NF Midwest, NF Northeast, NFCA and the NF Network. It also receives support from NF, Inc., Mid-Atlantic and JARC.
