Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) Camps, a.k.a. Brainy Camps, offer children and teens with chronic health conditions seven days and six nights of summer fun and social connections. CNMC physicians, nurses, social workers and parent-volunteers come together to care for campers who enjoy the typical activities one might expect at camp. At Brainy Camps, children experience all of the fun and adventure of a sleep-away camp with medical staff close at hand.

Brainy CampsAs for our camp staff, many of the same doctors, nurses, and counselors return each year to ensure the camp experience remains safe and fun. We are also are very pleased to note that should the need for medical care arise, Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg is just minutes away from our campsite in Massanetta Springs, Virginia.

Since the camp is located two hours away from DC, transportation for campers is available. The bus ride will five campers the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with old buddies and make new friends, as the counselors lead the campers in songs and games on their way to camp.

Our hosts at Massanetta Springs are working collaboratively with us to accommodate our requests and needs. This collaborative environment offers great promise for the future of Brainy Camps.

In the spirit of camp,

Sandra Cushner Weinstein, PT, LCSW-C and Susan Mehlman, Ph.D.
