Dear Friends and Family Members,
For those of you who have not yet heard, Brainy Camps will be substituting virtual camps in place of our in-person camp sessions this summer as the result of the ongoing impact of COVID-19. To help you plan for the summer, we are providing the typical schedule and the cost of our virtual camps. The camps will remain condition specific but the lengths, dates and details will be different in order to make our schedule work while ensuring as many children can be involved as possible. Actual camp dates are attached and will be listed on our website. Once again the goals are to keep the kids connected while engaged and having fun, building friendships and learning to become responsible self managers and leaders.
Daily Schedule
10:00 am Morning Meet- Up
10:30 am First Activity
12:30 pm Bunk Brunch
2:00 pm Second Activity
3:00 pm Cabin/Chat Room; Support Groups
7:00 pm Evening Activity
Each day will begin and end with a Zoom session for all campers followed by multiple, smaller, breakout sessions. These sessions will be offered throughout the day where campers can choose from a variety of activities (i.e., crafts, yoga, scavenger hunt, games, etc.). They also will have the opportunity to participate in support groups to promote CBT skills, mindfulness, insight and reflection, and address their worries, hopes and fears. Educational sessions with our medical experts will teach campers about their conditions and allow them to ask questions. Campers will also meet together in “bunks” with their assigned counselors and bunkmates to create a feeling of unity and connection. Virtual lunch with their bunks and counselor(s) will be offered. Every evening, campers will participate in camp-wide virtual group activities like a “campfire” sing-along and storytelling, talent show (campers and medical staff), and dance party.
Tuition:
The cost of Virtual Brainy Camps will be the registration fee of $200. This charge will help us cover the cost of camp tee shirts, activity supplies mailed to each camper prior to the start of camp, internet connections if needed so everyone can join our online camp program, and salary costs for our full-time counselors who are helping us to create this new form of camp, leading the activities and co-hosting the breakout rooms.
Scholarship & Refunds:
As always, we offer scholarships to any family who cannot cover the registration fee and will refund fees already paid to those families who request it. For those of you who have already paid more than the registration fee, we ask that you consider making a donation to help those families who were impacted by the economic downturn this year or putting the excess funds towards next year’s camp. Feel free to contact us and let us know your thoughts and your intent and we will be happy to honor your wishes.
FYI, we are currently exploring opportunities with Blue Ridge School to offer a reunion and/or weekend retreats during the upcoming school year once the restrictions are lifted and COVID testing is available. We will keep you informed of all plans as soon as we can.
